Poppy Fields

Hello Lovelies,
Yesterday, for the first time since before her operation,  mum and I were able to go out for a little weekday drive....nothing too adventurous.
Just travelling along winding roads through little villages and past fields of crops and cattle.

When we rounded one bend we both gasped with delight at the mass of poppies that covered the horizon between the trees...........

Of course we had to stop and take a closer look............

While Mum sat in the car and did a sketch I got out with my camera. Here's the view from the gateway.......

And happily there was a little footpath right into the field, allowing me to get a closer look........

Oooooh , I just love this picture ! the masses of poppies with the yellow and green of the oil seed rape crop, the blue sky with fluffy clouds..........just perfect ............

It was  hard to get a good photograph close up as the poppies bobbed and fluttered in the breeze...........

A little bit further along the road there was a gap in the hedge so we stopped again to get a view back towards the corner.......another wow...........

Its such an intense mass of bright red from this angle..........

That stretches almost as far as the eye can see..........

It was such a treat to find so many of these beautiful wild flowers , and such a blessing to be able to share it with mum.

  5. So so pleased to hear your Mum was able to get out and enjoy the countryside with you. Your pictures bring it all to life! The poppies are a magnificent sight. For me, they conjure up that scene in 'The Wizard of Oz' where Dorothy falls asleep after the wicked witch casts her spell on them. Thank you for really brightening my day, and continued best wishes for your Mum x

  17. How lovely to be able to take a little trip with your mum again. My favourite is the fifth one down - the richness and contrast of the colours is beautiful. It just goes to show sometimes we 'literally' do not know what is around the next corner! Enjoy the sunny weather x Jane

  18. Last week we drove from Derbyshire to Cornwall for a short break and were also captivated by all the Poppy's. So pretty, especially in contrast to the yellow rape seed flowers.

  21. What a beautiful sight. The fields round our way have are the same, but the poppies are mainly round the edge of the crop. I'd love to know how they harvest the rapeseed without the poppies! xx

  45. It is great to read that your mum is well on the mend.
Love the poppies in the field. We get nothing like that here in Australia. I just love your landscape photos. I can't wait to be in England for myself to see it for real. I'm lucky that a lot of my ancestral home towns are rural rather than in big cities. :)
    Thanks for sharing.
